Newspaper Design Notes

Jump:       When an article starts on the first page and resumes on the next.

The Flag:  Name of the Publications

Folio:    Includes: Name of the School, Name of City where it was published, Slogan, and Date. Folios also include the name of the section and the page number.

Teasers: Little pictures with title to catch your attention.

Headlines: Large text that grabs your attention. Headlines are complete sentences. (No Real Punctuation)

Sub-Headlines: Complete sentences and has no punctuation.

Captions: Caption head grabs your attention, Its a complete sentence, the caption itself must be at least two sentences long, The first sentence of the caption describes actions seen in photos, Second sentence should include caption itself, third part is the photo credit.

Byline: Name of writer and title

Junk: tells you where to find the story.

Info Graphic: Fast facts you can easily see and can be a chart.

Index: tells you where the sections begin.
Volume number and issue number.

Journalistic decision making: What stories are going to go into the newspaper.
